Common questions

Will this course teach me how to actually create fillable PDF forms that I can distribute to others?

Yes. The course walks through creating forms using Word and then converting them in Adobe Acrobat with auto-detection of form fields, so you can add text boxes, radio buttons, checkboxes, and signature fields. You'll learn how to set up required fields, name them distinctly to avoid duplication, and then distribute them for others to complete—either as one-time documents or repeatable forms.

I work with sensitive financial documents like tax returns and contracts. Can you actually remove information from PDFs so it's truly gone, not just hidden?

Yes. The redaction feature in Adobe Acrobat Pro permanently removes text and images from a PDF—it cuts the content out of the page rather than placing a black box over it. The course demonstrates redacting company names and explains how to also use the sanitize feature to remove metadata (like who created the document and when) so sensitive information isn't hidden in the file itself.

I don't have Adobe Acrobat yet—is there a cheaper way to do basic PDF work, or do I really need the full version?

For basic reading, filling out forms, and light editing, you don't need the full version. The course mentions several free and low-cost alternatives like Sumatra PDF, QPDF, and Foxit Reader that do most everyday tasks. You only need Standard (roughly $20/month) or Pro if you're doing heavy editing, creating forms at scale, or working with compliance standards. Even then, many tasks can now be done directly in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint without any Adobe plugin.

Can I convert PDFs back into Word or Excel files so I can edit them in those programs?

Yes, Adobe Acrobat has a Convert tool that lets you export PDFs to Word, Excel, or image formats. However, the course emphasizes this is "best effort"—the original file format will always be more reliable. If you can get the original Word or Excel file instead, that's preferable. For simple documents like balance sheets the conversion works well, but complex layouts may have formatting issues.

I get unsigned forms and documents from clients all the time. Can I turn them into professional, legally binding e-signed documents?

Absolutely. The course shows how to use Adobe Sign to send documents out for electronic signature, verify that signatures are authentic and cannot be forged, and create a permanent audit trail. Once signed, the document becomes read-only and encrypted so neither party can alter it. Everyone involved receives a certified copy by email, and you can track signature status and send reminders.
